About The Role
The New Markets team’s goal is to identify new regional opportunities with sustainable distribution entry strategies, deploy and support the technology platform, and support the operations of the new market during its first stages of rapid growth. The team functions as a bridge between Zip’s existing and new markets, contributing cross-border knowledge.
The purpose of the Legal & Regulatory Strategy Manager is to execute Zip’s launch and growth in Asia by meticulously navigating the intersection between finance, technology and regulations, while enriching our culture of innovation.
You will develop a sophisticated understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks in Asia, work cross- functionally, facilitate a successful market entry, and shape the legal and compliance foundations in the region.
This role will see you learning the details of Zip’s existing and expanding palette of payment products and businesses to provide pragmatic regulatory advice on a wide range of matters, identifying and measuring potential risks. In this role you will drive necessary license applications, support our Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs teams, and assist in responses to regulatory requests.
You will independently examine, research and analyse fintech policies, regulatory developments and legal projects in Asia; and implement and monitor best practices, internal policies and processes to make sure that Zip is compliant with laws, regulations and license requirements, support the negotiation of contracts to enable the business in Asia.
You will lead responsibility for developing Zip’s legal, regulatory and compliance functions in Asia.
In this role you will also share regional expertise to seek efficiencies across the business, and collaborate with broader local and international teams in brainstorming forums on legal, regulatory and compliance matters. Additionally, you will embrace continuous improvement through the creation of playbooks, newsletters and tools that can help knowledge sharing, alignment and scalability and think outside the box to leverage innovative, entrepreneurial thinking.

To Help Us Level Up, You’ll Bring
- 6+ years in legal or regulatory advisory roles, including in the fintech sector in Asia.
- Technical skills to interpret, explain, and apply broad and complex regulatory matters in practical and simple ways.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in project management and great attention to detail.
- Experience working with autonomy, professional judgement, flexibility and responsibility in a fast-moving and collaborative environment.
- Experience working in international settings.
- Experience revising and negotiating contracts.
- Degree in the field of law and finance.
- Additional language proficiency (Malay, Bahasa and/or Thai)
