Job Description Summary:

TPX (Technology, Platform and Experience) China is part of the PayPal Global TPX organization, which holds a very large portfolio of infrastructure and platform technology. It includes everything from data centers to developer experience and all aspects like security, reliability, quality, productivity, modernization, enablement and efficiency. The strategy of TPX China is to articulate the believes, principles, initiatives and achievements in order to serve the PayPal operation in China.

We are looking for an experienced manager to lead the enterprise Data Service team in China. These teams are responsible for building data products on top of the Hadoop system, data transformation and movement services, data catalog and storage, development, delivery and support/management as well as corresponding tools & infrastructure to enable and optimize wide-range business use cases. Working closely with the technical product management team and technical partners, you are expected to effectively mentor, transform & grow the team and team's capability.Job Description:

Responsibilities include

Ability to lead complex discussions and engagements that may involve multiple project teams.

Construct a business and technical architecture that levers industry standards and use cases to create operating efficiency.

Provide strategic guidance and direction to teams.

Manage stakeholder planning and communications for key product data outcomes.

Oversee technical project delivery process with key contributors to help manage scope.

Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform.

Ensure the engineering team implements optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices.

Participate in the development of architectures, strategies, and policies around data governance; including master data management, metadata management, data quality and data profiling.

Keep abreast of new developments in the big data ecosystem, and constantly evaluate the strategy in partnership with the leadership team.

Ability to assess new technologies and make pragmatic choices that point towards our long-term vision.

Great verbal, communication and follow-through skills

Be able to motivate the team to innovate and contribute to open source as the need arises.


A computer science graduate or undergraduate degree or equivalent with 10+ years of building large scalable and reliable enterprise technology platforms using Big Data open source technologies such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Kafka and Elastic Search / Solr.

Has excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Experience with high-capacity data ingests using Kafka into Hadoop or Spark is highly desired.

10+ years of experience delivering enterprise solutions, data-related benchmarking, performance analysis and tuning.

3+ years team management experience

solid programming experience in languages like Java or Scala or Python or equivalent.

Passion for solving business problems with data.

Great sense of engineering/process/infrastructure trade-offs.

Experience with building RESTful API’s is a plus.

Experience with building real-time applications is a plus.

Experience working in agile software development model preferred.

Experience working with cross-functional teams and geo-locations.

Experience with Tableau or other visualization tools is a plus.
