Global Controllership, a segment of American Express Finance, is made up of approximately 1,500 employees in 28 countries and more than 50 locations around the world. Controllership partners with all business units and staff groups across the Company to ensure financial integrity, a strong control environment and enhance shareholder value by delivering financial accounting, reporting, compliance, planning and advisory services.

How will you make an impact in this role?
This position will report directly to the Director of Finance Operational Excellence & SOX Compliance and will be responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of Finance Operational Risk Events (ORE), building and maintaining business partner relationships across Finance, other OE teams throughout the company and ORGG, as well as serving as a subject matter expert over Financial Reporting risk in identification and assessment of OREs subject to SOX compliance. This role offers the opportunity to become familiar with Finance processes and the successful candidate will be able to build significant partnerships across all areas of Finance and manage business partner relationships with other business unit Operational Excellence teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support Finance in the execution of the company’s operational risk framework, ensuring consistency and compliance with the requirements of the Enterprise-wide Operational Risk Policy and related guidance.
- Support Finance business partners in raising, confirming, remediating, and closing OREs in line with control rating metrics.
- Developing, issuing, and maintaining guidance for operational risk and SOX governance activities and initiatives.
- Supporting various reporting activities as part of the Company’s operational risk metrics tracking, escalation and reporting to various risk committees – Operational Risk Management Committee, Enterprise Risk Management Committee, etc.
- Providing Operational Risk and SOX advisory to Finance process areas, to enable a seamless customer experience and support the ORE SOX assessment process, in line with American Express’ Operational Risk Event Standards and SOX guidance.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant work experience preferred
- Highly motivated with an ability to independently drive results and work with ambiguity
- A strong understanding and practical experience of Risk and Control disciplines, Sarbanes Oxley, and/or processes risk assessment is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate matters in settings comprised of varying skillsets and levels of understanding. Must be able to adapt communication to audience effectively
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate and influence across a cross-functional team
- Advanced qualifications such as a CPA, CIA, CISA or higher degrees in Risk Management are desirable
- High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
